 Growing
up in Howland Twp., Ohio, I spent a good deal of my childhood in the
stream and woods, looking under rocks, collecting fossils. Now 50yrs.
later I'm doing the same thing, looking for rocks, noting their different
textures, sizes, shapes, and contours, and visualizing what picture or
verse would be suited to them. My dog Silas helps me carry them home in
his backpack.
A few years ago when I needed markers for pets' grave, I taught myself
how to engrave in natural sandstone, through a lot of trial and error. Then,
thanks to Carla at Gram's Garden and Gifts I found that these were
marketable, as well as other types of "garden stones" her customers
ordered. Since then , and after more trial and error, I've created a
diversity of stone engravings, mostly nature and pet related. I've shown
them at Mill Creek Park's Art in the Park, Warren's Altrusa Club Craft
Show, Angels for Animals Art Show and Sale, and Native American Pow Wows
