Wilderness is not a luxury, but a necessity of the human spirit.

Edward Abbey

S

heree Daugherty is an acclaimed wildlife artist and naturalist whose work is in private and public collections across the country.  In her more than three-decade career, she has used her keen powers of observation to create spectacular works of wildlife art.  Daugherty’s goal as an artist is to both inspire and enrich the lives of those fortunate enough to enjoy her work by re-creating for them the splendor of the natural world.

“I want everyone to be able to fully appreciate the incredible beauty, variety and diversity that exists just outside their doorsteps,” says Daugherty.  “In today’s busy world, it’s so easy to overlook the perfection of nature and the natural processes; I hope my paintings will help bring to mind the wild and beautiful creatures and places that exist nearby.”

Daugherty’s realistic and accurate paintings are the result of years of study and observation, which allow her to carefully portray her subjects with a naturalist’s eye for detail.  A long time resident of rural western Pennsylvania, Sheree honed her observational skills by creating and preserving habitats for the wild birds, insects and animals that occupy the area’s woodlands.  As a result of many hours spent in the field, her portrayal of wildlife and habitat is meticulous.

In her new work, Daugherty has turned her naturalist’s eye to the vast array of moths and butterflies that populate nearly every wild place on the planet.  Her butterfly wing details and specimen moth paintings reveal the incredible beauty of these ephemeral  “living flowers.”

Daugherty has also substantially aided wildlife preservation and science by participating in a number of conservation projects.  She is an active participant in the Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas project and sits on the Board of Directors of Wild Waterways Conservancy.  She also serves on Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Connoquenessing Creek Watershed Plan Committee.  Her favorite activities combine outdoor recreation, travel and research.  Her paintings have been used to help support numerous conservation and charitable organizations.
