Sheila Barrera
Born 1954, upstate New York, Sheila's parents had
a great influence upon her artistic direction at a very young age. She was
said even to have painted pictures on the walls next to her crib as a baby.
Her grandmother, Onna T. Orick painted with Sheila and taught her to use oils
by the time she was 6 years old. Her parents were very interested in going
often to the theatre and so she saw the opera or heard live orchestra or
musicals on Broadway often. She was always enthralled with the sets.... she
graduated Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, 1977, BFA Sculpture. Since then she has
had works shown in galleries around the country, often winning awards in shows
and participating in group exhibitions.
Sheila and her husband currently live in Clearwater, Florida, at their own motel, one block from the sea.
