How Santa Came to Be!
by Curtis Woods©

The Story of Santa Clause was told to the children for many generations
and many countries lay claim to the Legend of the Man, who, on
Christmas Eve, will bring gifts to all good little boys and girls.

For hundreds of years Dutch Children would leave their shoes
by the hearth on Christmas Eve for St. Nicholas. In America stockings
are hung by the fire with care, hoping St Nicholas will fill them with care.

In 1822 Dr. Clement Clarke Moore put the story of St Nicholas into verse
titled "An account of a visit from St. Nicholas". Moore is also credited
with the idea of Santa Claus coming down the chimney. Moore portrayed
Santa as an elf.

Thomas Nast a newspaper cartoonist, returned Santa to normal height
and gave him a big round belly. His Illustrations of Santa, dressed him
in a red satin suit trimmed in white ermine. He added a wide black belt,
a pointed cap and leather boots.

Santa Clause is depicted in literature, songs, and film. The movies of Santa
Clause have provided the model for the Santa Clause celebrated around
the world today.

Who Is Santa Claus?

J. Harold Gwynne

Don't be surprised while I confide,
He may be standing by your side!

He's every wish and fervent prayer;
He's every kind deed everywhere.

He's love wherever love is found;
He's one's best self the year around.

He's every Christmas Melody,
He's every gift neath every tree.

He's in each handclasp of a friend;
He's Christmas cheer that has no end.

He's faith, and hope, a dream come true . . .
Why, yes, of course, he could be you!

The Hearth at Christmas

George B. Adams

twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)Christmastime is hearth-time,twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)
O come one and all!
Watch the fireside shadows
Leap upon the wall.

twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)How the glowing embers twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)
Softly bring to light
Joy on all the faces,
Emblem of this night.

twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)Snow is thickly falling,twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)
But it's warm inside,
Warm with friendly feeling
By the fireside.

twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)Someone tell the story twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)
of Christ's Birth and then
place another Yule log
on the fire again.

twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)Christmastime is hearth-time,twinkle1.gif (3084 bytes)
Gather one and all!
See the fireside shadows
Dance upon the wall.

I am going to have some quotes I thought would be appropriate for the season. I will be adding to these as time goes by. Here are the first of these.

You do not know what hope is until you have lost it.
(T.S. Eliot)

Before another Christmas dawns, God grant we earn the peace those ageless stars foretell

I live in a very small house, but my windows look out on a very large world.
(Confucius)

The Light that shines from the humble manger is strong enough to lighten
our way to the end of our days.

I thank God for Christmas.
Would that it lasted all year.
For on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day,
all the world is a better place,
and men and women are more loveable,
Love it self seeps into every heart,
and Miracles happen.
(Peter Marshall)

Christmas is the day that holds all time together
(Alexander Smith)

Christmas began in the heart of God. It is complete only when it reaches the heart of man.
