James O'Malley is a full time, self taught artist from Youngstown, Ohio,
where he attended Ursuline High School and Youngstown University. He has participated
in a number of workshops for portrait painting but always returns to his first
love in painting: photo-realism. He began painting with pastels and
colored pencils, but recently has been working with acrylics, sometimes in
combination with colored pencils and ink. For most of his work, he paints on
100% acid-free rag paper, illustration board, or gesso coated hardboard
panels.
O'Malley's works have won numerous awards in shows throughout Ohio &
Pennsylvania and found in many private Collections.
James' Latest show was at the Hoyt Museum in New Castle, Pa You may view some

Artist Statement
I consider myself a self taught artist with a passion for realism. Many of my
works are a result from my own photos. Interesting subject matter, strong
colors, values, and a good composition are what i a aim for in every painting.
My works are done on 100% acid free rag paper, illustration board, or gesso
coated hardboard panels. I work mostly in acrylic, sometimes adding ink or
colored pencil. |
