 Moira Milne Elsley portrays her artistic style in watercolour, with her subject material ranging from portraits, her favourite, to landscapes, still life and animals. Although the luminosity of transparent watercolour is her first love, some of her pieces are in acrylic and, more recently, the oil medium. Her first experience with watercolour was in a Joe Fettingis workshop at Bear Creek Studio in Petrolia, Ontario. This gave her the courage to continue learning through books and from other artists. Moira works from her cottage studio on Lake Manitou, on Manitoulin Island, in Northern Ontario, Canada.
Having immigrated to Canada from Scotland as a child, Moira previously lived in Toronto, Etobicoke, Guelph and Petrolia. She finds that Manitoulin Island has an extensive artistic community with a wealth of scenic locations to paint, and always takes her camera with her when away from her cottage. Moira also paints commissioned works from approved photos. She is a member in Fine Arts with the Gore Bay/Manitoulin Island Arts Club.
Moira has had work chosen for the Northern Ontario Artists' Association Juried Exhibition, which tours galleries throughout Northern Ontario. She has also had work chosen for a Juried Exhibition at Bear Creek Studio in Petrolia. Annually, her work is shown in the Manitoulin Island Art Tour.
