In 2008 The State of Ohio
Farm Bureau held its "Tip of the Hat to Agriculture" competition. In each
of the 88 counties of Ohio, entries were sent in to represent the
agriculture of that county. the local Mahoning County Farm Bureau held a
competition for the Mahoning county hat. Mrs. Clark's entry "bountiful
Ohio" was the winner for Mahoning county, by the way this is where Mrs.
Clark was born and raised. Her entry along with the other 87 traveled
across the state and were displayed locally at the Canfield Fair as well
as the Ohio State Fair in columbus and the Bob Evans Farm in Ohio. Her hat
features the variety of crops grown in ohio as well as miniature fields
and tractors working in those fields. From this exposure Mrs. Clark
received two commissions from the Bob Evans restaurants in Canfield and
Boardman to paint hats for their own dinner giveaway. these hats had the
delicious entrees of the meal painted on the hats.
In 2007 The Junior League of Youngstown chose two of Mrs. Clarks
photographs for their "Celebrating the Mahoning Valley Calendar". Her
photos were of downtown Youngstown and St. James meeting house in Boardman
Park and where displayed for the month of January and December.
In 2007 The Fine Arts council of Trumbull County held the "Spectacle of
Speed" community art project. In this competition artists were to submit
their designs to be painted on a 6 ft. replica of the Goddess hood
ornament of the Packard automobile originated by the Packard brothers of
Warren, Ohio. Thanks to the Craig Bonar family, Mrs. Clark's design
"Packard, in our hearts, our heritage and our history...forever" was
chosen as a final design. After months of painstaking work the project was
completed featuring photos of actual Packard automobiles owned by local
residents on the base of the statue. All 35 statues by different artists
were on display at Perkins Park in warren for an absolute amazing show of
the talent in the area. The statue was then on display for a month at the
historic Butts House in Fowler before going on to the auction held at
Packard Music Hall in Warren. At the auction Mayor Obrien purchased the
statue to be displayed at the Packard Museum in Warren. Jay Leno also
designed one of the statues and was on display at the Packard Museum in
Warren for a short time before being auctioned off. |
