KAY WILSON, Canfield, OH, works primarily in oils, but in recent years has developed a strong interest in digital art. Subject matter ranges from portraits and landscapes to non-objective abstracts. Her oil paintings are characterized by overlapping layers of paint usually applied with a knife. Education: Dayton Art Institute, Miami University (Ohio), and Youngstown State Univ. (B.S. Art Education) She has taught adult classes in color and design, figure, portrait and advanced painting, at Butler Institute of American Art, Trumbull Art Gallery, Salem Art Guild, and in her home studio.

Shows include BUTLER INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN ART: MIDYEAR SHOW, Youngstown Ohio; BOSTON MILLS INVITATIONAL (Cleveland/Akron OH area) ; HUDSON ROTARY INVITATIONAL, Cleveland-Akron, OH; KEENE MASON GALLERY, NYC.

Her work has won more than 80 AWARDS in area and national competitions, and is included in the collections of Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH; Ingram Book Co, Nashville, Tn; Altronic Inc, Girard, Oh; Eyecare Assoc. Youngstown, OH; and many area hospitals, professional offices and private clients.

 Two of her paintings have been finalists in competitions sponsored by THE ARTISTS'S MAGAZINE. An oil painting of a cat titled EMPRESS OF THE WOODSHED was published in the May 1995 issue, in the Golden Gallery of Winners. As one of 40 winning artists of an international competition sponsored by Adobe Photoshop, five of her digital portraits are included on the Tour & Training CD packed with the 1998 release of Adobe Photoshop 5.0 software.

A self portrait is included in the recently published PHOTOSHOP 5/5.5 WOW! workbook, authored by Linnea Dayton and Jack Davis, published by Peachpit Press.

An oil portrait of former Federal Judge Battisti was presented to the court in an unveiling ceremony on June 19, 1998. It hangs in the second floor lobby of the Federal Courthouse in Youngstown, OH.

American Heritage Band, Langley Air Force Base, MD commissioned 18 illustrations of fairy tales and Ogden Nash poems to be included with a recently released CD.

Selected for inclusion in MARQUIS' WHO'S WHO IN THE MIDWEST 1996 -1997, 1998-1999. Coming event: Solo show at Butler Institute of American Art-Salem branch.January 9 thru April 30, 2000.

Artist's Statement:

I've been painting for more than 40 years and still don't know what "art" is. Perhaps the goal is simply to experience the journey.  I continue to search, to enjoy, and to wonder.
