After
graduating from Leavittsburg H.S. Kay (Cortland, OH) studied fashion
design at Kent State University. Her focus was design and tailoring,
which she taught in Peoria, IL for many years. After receiving her
Masters Degree in guidance and counseling she became a guidance
counselor at the Mathews School System (Trumbull Co.) and retired
there in 2006.
In 2004 she began taking drawing lessons from Sue Jacobs who drew
out Kay’s innate artistic talent. Her work in acrylics was accepted
into the (Youngstown, OH) Butler Institute of American Art’s
National Mid-year Show in 2005 and again in 2007 –major achievements
so soon after starting painting. Her work has consistently been
accepted into other major shows at “The Butler”, the Hoyt Institute
of Fine Art in New Castle, PA and the Trumbull Art Gallery in
Warren, OH.
Kay works mainly in acrylics or pastels and enjoys portraits,
landscapes, and water. Her preference is the unposed figure. The
exciting part, for her, is the play of light--she loves sunlight and
unusual compositions. Kay will consider the acceptance of
commissions. |
