Karen Fry left behind her career in guidance c ounseling
and education when she retired in 2000. Since then, she has turned
her attention to the local art world.
The first thing she discovered was that there was a lack of
communication among artists. So, in 2002, she developed a newsletter
called Trumbull Area Artists, which now serves over 240 members in
several counties as a monthly vehicle of communication. The
newsletter features an Artist of the Month along with news artists
can use. Check it out at

TAA also coordinates gallery space at the Nissen Gallery (Trumbull
Memorial Hospital, Warren, OH), as well as an artist demonstration
for six days of the local Canfield Fair (Mahoning County).
Karen has been working in lots of media, including watercolor,
pastel, graphite, and, most recently, acrylics and printmaking
(especially reduction linocuts). She works from models, from her own
photos, and in plein air.
She has exhibited in several galleries, particularly Trumbull Art
Gallery (Warren, OH), the Nissen Gallery (Trumbull Memorial
Hospital, in Warren) and The Butler Institute of American Art (in
Youngstown, OH, and its branches in Salem and Warren).
Her affiliations include Trumbull Art Gallery, The Butler Institute
of American Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, and Trumbull Area Artists.
She volunteers regularly at Trumbull Art Gallery, where she is a
participant in the printmaking sessions. She has been taking studio
classes with Al Bright, professor emeritus at Youngstown State
University, through the 60+ program there.
Karen has also developed, and digitally published, several
computerized albums for herself, and on commission, with such themes
as major travel experiences and gallery shows (such as for
multi-artist shows at Trumbull Art Gallery).
