Artist Biography
Julie
draws inspiration for her luminous award-winning watercolors from
the tropical landscape and colors of her home in Tampa, FL. Color
is her muse. "I love to paint wet into wet, to watch as pure
colors mix and merge on paper to create new ones no human hand can
mix." Her large-scale floral images are known for their brilliant
vibrancy. "I strive for maximum intensity and luminosity of color
in every painting"
Julie's painting career began in the historic
art community of Rockport, MA, where she developed her skills
painting landscapes en plein air. She studied at Boston's
Museum of Fine Arts, as well as with internationally known artists
Robert Wade, Charles Reid and Don Andrews.
Expanding her craft to include works in oil, Julie enjoys capturing
the simplicity of everyday objects in her still life work. In July
2007 she completed an intensive program of oil painting and figure
drawing at the Florence Academy of Art, Florence, Italy. There she
was schooled in the methods of Classical Realism as taught in the
major European Academic Ateliers of the 19th century.
"Studying in Florence instilled the realization that beauty in
painting is rooted in exquisite craftsmanship and confirmed my
desire to apply this belief to all of my work."
Julie exhibits her work in juried shows
throughout the Tampa Bay area. She is a founding member of C5Arts,
a signature member of the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society, a
member of the Creative Artists Guild of Dunedin, and the Beach Art
Center in Indian Rocks Beach, where she teaches weekly watercolor
classes.
