HUGHES PAINTS - breeders of APHA Horses & AKC Golden Retrievers

Hughes Paints is a small breeding program located in Western Pennsylvania, the farm is managed by myself (Michelle) and my husband Alan, as well as our 2 boys Alan & Zachary who help make this possible. Alan & I started our breeding program in 1994 with registered Shorthorn Cattle & have since expanded  to APHA horses and AKC Golden Retrievers. We keep our breeding stock small so we can produce healthy, quality animals that are trained to their potential at the time of sale.

I only breed 1-4 mares a year so that each foal gets adequate training & handling before they are sold.

We are proud to own & breed the APHA Homozygous Stallion: IMATUFFSONNY (extended pedigree available on pedigree page).Sonny is a gorgeous tobiano stallion who has all the qualities of the leading APHA stallions, he is tested (U.C. Davis) and carries the Tobiano gene and will produce color even when bred to a solid mare.Sonny currently has offspring thru out the United States, several of which are in the show & breeding circuit. He passes along his WONDERFUL disposition, trainability, correct confirmation as well as his beauty.I can't say enough about this stallions pedigree, it is outstanding in the AQHA & APHA circuit, including Tuff Black Panther, who's Sire: Tuff Kid has been the cornerstone to one of the largest Homozygous breeding programs in the United States. Alan & I have also been longtime owners & breeders of AKC (American Kennel Club) Golden Retrievers. We chose this breed years ago for their wonderful dispositions, incredible intelligence and their great ability to be trained for working with other animals.
 

We proudly produce Goldens that meet all the standards of this breed and we've not only sold our goldens as pets (our dogs are NOT kennel dogs) but have produced several guide/service & therapy dogs as well. I have hand selected every golden I own, when I chose my 1st goldens I looked for DNA testing, OFA certificates as well as type, the nice big box head, and have produced more quality goldens from our original ones, each dog is our pet NOT just used for breeding purposes.
