ART EXPERIENCE
1961 - 1965 Vancouver College of Art
1966 - 1967 Advertising Agency, Toronto.
1967 - 1984 Sears (Toronto), layout artist, art director, advertising
manager (fashions, Montreal), manager broadcast services (Toronto).
1984 - returned to Victoria to paint full time.
1985 - 1990 owned commercial art instruction studio and art supply
business. Started doing short trip workshops for art groups in the Gulf Islands,
Port Alberni, Lantzville, Duncan, Maple Bay and many other small communities on
Vancouver Island.
1990 - 1999 Continued to expand workshop tour and taught regular adult
watercolour classes in Victoria. Sold originals through several galleries on the
Island and in Vancouver.Worked with various architects and developers to provide
paintings from sets of plans. These were used mainly for getting approvals prior
to construction, but the painting experience was a springboard to many
watercolour cityscapes.
These paintings along with seascapes began selling well in galleries and his
first lithograph reproduction was printed in 1992. This image of Victoria’s
Inner Harbour was produced as a poster and also an art card. The poster has
since sold over ten thousand units.
Several other images were produced as posters, prints, limited editions and
cards during this time including Butchart Gardens, the Parliamen buildings and
Empress hotel.
Meanwhile, much of Grant's original work was in the form of commissions. This
sudden explosion of architectural images began attracting people who wanted
paintings of their homes. Other popular commissions were paintings of churches,
given as weddding gifts to those being married or their families.
Grant has had several one man shows featuring original nude figure work. There
are several collectors who specifically wait for this work. Others are
collectors of seascapes and wait for exhibits featuring that subject.
1999 - 2004 In October of ‘99 Grant bought a computer. This decision
resulted from having seen some remarkably good quality done on a PC and ink jet
printer. This would allow him to create brochures and other advertising material
as well as support documents for workshops, giving students graphic print outs
to take home.
Soon the computer would become a major player in his art world. He made his own
web site consisting of a series of lessons and sample paintings and offers free
email lessons to anyone who requests them. He now has about eight hundred on the
mailing list. This has created popular workshops in St. Albert and Calgary as
well as several on Vancouver Island.
He accompanied his friend Jack Reid, instructing a workshop for two weeks in
Newfoundland, a direct result of computer generated brochures and internet
contact.
He has made four eBooks and is in the early stages of developing this area of
teaching.
He is currently working with the promotional department of one of the major five
star hotels here, hosting workshops for artists travelling to Victoria.

1987 - FCA jurors award - First Prize for “We’re Donkeys” full sheet

1993 - purchase and presentation to Federal PC leader Joe Clark
“Parliament Buildings” open edition.
1997 - purchase and presentation of 20 framed “Victoria” prints to CTV
staff and celebrities.
1998 - purchase and presentation of 38 framed limited edition “Breakfast
at the Empress” prints to best employees of Petrocan.
