After twenty-four years of a successful career in commercial art and television production, Don Getz picked up his artist's brushes in the spring of 1977 to pursue a new livelihood in fine art. Since that time, he has lectured and conducted watercolor demonstrations on university campuses as well as countless art societies; instructs drawing classes for The Cleveland Institute of Art; teaches aqueous workshops across the United States and abroad.

Recognized as a fair and impartial juror, Getz is frequently called upon to exercise his expertise at national shows. He also enjoys participating in critiques of art, which is an important part of his workshop procedure. He is a contributing Editor for The Artist's Magazine, serves as a national director of Knickerbocker Artists-USA and has served as catalog chairman for the AWS since 1985.

Getz is best known, though, for his informative watercolor and drawing workshops held across the country. A feature article in the January, 1986 issue of The Artist's Magazine describes his unique method of painting with transparent watercolor pigments on acrylic gesso surfaces. The August, 1993 issue of The Artist's Magazine also features an article on Getz' technique of creating Graphite Drawings. His paintings have also been published in Splash 3, 1994 American Artist, Watercolor Magic/Spring, 1994; Art Today, Prize-winning Watercolors and a number of issues of The Artist's Magazine.

Original Watercolors and acrylics by Getz have been exhibited in most major national exhibitions including The American Watercolor society, Watercolor USA; National Arts Club, NY; Knickerbocker Artists, NY; Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors; Rockie Mountain Watermedia Exhibition; The Butler Institute of American Art Midyear Exhibition and Marietta (Ohio) Mainstreams, earning over fifty national awards and four gold medals in the process.

In 1992, Don Getz was honored with a 30 Year Retrospective Exhibition of his watercolors, acrylics and graphite drawings at The Butler Institute of American Art, Salem Museum. His impressionistic watercolors and acrylics reside in numerous private, corporate and museum collections in the United States, Canada, Holland, Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Spain, Japan, Russia and Switzerland. Gets is listed in Edition XXIII of the Dictionary of International Biographys, Cambridge, England and the 16th Edition of Men of Achievement.
