Kris Parins

Delight in nature was instilled in Kris in her childhood, spent at the edge of a lake in northern Wisconsin. That same small lake now provides the view and inspiration from the windows of her summer studio.

After receiving a degree from the University of Wisconsin she worked in fibers for several years. A career as an Art Director in the advertising and design field led to an interest in illustration and then watercolor. She has studied with Bridget Austin, Gloria Miller Allen, Nita Engle, and many other generous professional artists.

While she paints a wide variety of subjects, she utilizes the transparency of the watercolor to capture the effect of strong sunlight; an ongoing theme in her paintings. Since moving to Sarasota in 2003 Kris has been stimulated by the riot of color and texture in the local scene. In the past several years she has enjoyed teaching watercolor in Florida and Wisconsin. She finds the shared enthusiasm with students to be a source of energy and inspiration.

Her paintings have received awards in national juried exhibitions, and are in many private and public collections, including that of the National Parks.
