Julie Messerschmidt
Artist Biography
Julie draws inspiration for her luminous award-winning
watercolors from the tropical landscape and colors of her home
in Tampa, FL. Color is her muse. I love to paint wet into wet,
to watch as pure colors mix and merge on paper to create new
ones no human hand can mix. Her large-scale floral images are
known for their brilliant vibrancy. I strive for maximum
intensity and luminosity of color in every painting
Julies painting career began in Rockport, MA, where she
developed her skills painting landscapes en plein air. She
studied at Bostons Museum of Fine Arts as well as with
internationally known artists Robert Wade, Charles Reid and Don
Andrews.
Recently Julie has begun to explore figurative painting where
her goal is to express the intensity of a moment suspended in
time buy using bold color and the drama created by the contrast
of light and dark.
Motivated by her desire to create paintings of the everyday
beauty which surrounds us, she has also turned her hand to oils
where light and shadow play a major role in still life and
landscapes. I hope my work inspires people to appreciate simple
pleasures: the glorious splendor of a single flower or the
interplay of light and shadow on a sunny day.
Julie exhibits her work in juried shows throughout the Tampa Bay
area. She is a member of The Creative Artists Guild of Dunedin,
Studio 1212 in Clearwater, the Beach Art Center in Indian Rocks,
the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society, and C5Arts, of which
she is a founding member. Julie enjoys sharing the painting
process during the weekly watercolor classes she teaches at the
Beach Art Center in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. |
