Flo Hosa Dougherty

Flo, an artistically energetic lady, was aspired to art at an early age. Later with an art scholarship, she studied art at Kent State University and received her teaching degree from Youngstown State University. She fostered art in young people for 30 years at a large high school.

An award winning artist she usually paints representationally but feels there's room for fun art as well as fine art. That reflects in the diverse range of her subject matter.

Regarding procedure, as resource sketches are made on locale with notes: "That becomes my visual and verbal impression of a moment's impact of content, contrast, mass and color. Sometimes only an image on the mind lingers strong enough to interpret later."

Besides working in oils, watercolor and acrylics Flo has 12 limited edition S/N lithograph prints published, the latest being " A Horse is a Horse, of Course".

ARTIST STATEMENT

Right now my works are the echoes of places and experiences. They are representational using the aforementioned as recollections of memory with a concept more that actuality. However, enough suggestion is captured for the viewer to realize a familiararity with the subject. Like an echo repeatedly allows changes and special tones on its return, so will the qualities of a subject experienced.
